Merry Christmas To All You Future Pay-Per-Viewers

Time Magazine named You the person of the year for 2006. It was largely because of the blogosphere. But was that moniker earned?

Quite frankly, I don’t care. This story isn’t about Time. It’s more about blogging. Will it die? Will it survive? Will it get voted off the island?

People are getting more tech savvy and business owners in particular. But will blogging survive 2007 or will the tech savvy netpreneurs move on to something else?

I believe there is reason to believe that blogging will be around for a little while longer, but it may not survive its current form. After all, people still go to the movies even though they can watch a DVD in their home. And some people are still stuck on VHS. There will still be a market for blogging. But what about businesses on the edge?

Well, next year will likely be lead by businesses on the cutting edge of video and mobile search. After all, Google snatched up YouTube and already they’re working on the beta version of the Internet video advertising model. Just as Google created search engine marketing, it will also bring a new face to video marketing. There’s no telling to what heights it will aspire; however, it will likely involve your Blackberry and you cell phone, maybe even your Skype.

Yes, blogging will live beyond the end of next year but there will be an increase in video blogs and you will even see video advertising on them. Google will likely roll out a PPV model of advertising – that is, pay-per-video. Every time someone clicks on the video link to watch the ad there will be a payday for the blogger. It will, of course, be tied to keywords just as PPC ads are now. After Google, Yahoo! and MSN will follow. Stay tuned, folks, the Internet will continue its downward spiral into crass commercialism – much like Christmas!

Which reminds me, have a merry one.
