In The Web Of The Future, Content Will Be King
A woman switches on a tiny wireless chip that has been surgically implanted behind her ear, which then synchs up with the Web wherever she is in the world. The simple thought of logging on to the Internet triggers the system to turn on and connect to the Web. She could be on a bus or at the beach and from all outward appearances she’s just staring off into space. But she sees a three dimensional artificial world before her that she can manipulate any way she chooses by mere thought alone.
Yeah, right. We’ll all be connected to some borg that allows us Total Recall-like experiences at the drop of a hat. This dream has been around for 50 years. It hasn’t been realized yet.
That’s not to say there isn’t some application for human brain-Web interaction. In Six Million Dollar Man fashion, medical science is on the verge of a break through. Some day, artificial limbs may be controlled by human brain functions just like real limbs. it could be done though a neural network that includes a Web-based experience, or it might utilize another technology entirely.
The Web will change. There is no doubt about that. But as to how exactly it will change, no one can say. One thing is for sure. Content will always be king.
