The Search Engine War Has Begun
Yesterday, we highlighted the newest search technology on the Net. Today, we found these two paragraphs buried near the bottom of a local California news station’s website:
While Sterling sees Ask as the hungriest of the search engines, Google is still by far the biggest with a 45-percent share of all queries in the U.S.
Yahoo! and Microsoft share another big chunk of the pie, but just recently, Ask nudged out AOL for the number four spot. It’s a bump that has tech columnists taking notice.
Ask.com CEO Jim Lanzone says his search engine has been the fastest growing search engine since it dropped Jeeves. At that rate, Ask will overcome Yahoo! and MSN and could take a significant share of the search market from Google. But will it overtake Google?
That remains to be seen, but we are sure of one thing: The search market is getting more competitive and the competition is coming from corners a few years ago we’d never thought of.
