Google’s Problems Just Keep Getting Worse

Google has problems. Big problems:

  • YouTube
  • Click Fraud
  • Copyright Infringement?

I couldn’t believe it.

The YouTube porn issue is understandable. I mean, I can wrap my mind around it. People don’t like it. It’s bad. YouTube did it. Google owns YouTube. Google’s bad. By association. Makes good logical sense if you ask me.

Then there’s click fraud. Baaaaaaad. Real bad. Some people are made at Google. Could be much ado about nothing, but it’s understandable.

But copyright infringement? That’s a joke, right? Evidently not. Not in Belgium anyway.

Google’s case in the Belgian courts that ruled the search engine is guilty of copyright infringement for cataloging copyrighted works could lead to some serious backlash. How many other nations are going to follow suit?

Let’s see, imagine Google being banned from, say, China. Or suppose North Korea doesn’t like the big search engine putting links to websites displaying nudity and violence so it sues for violation of indecency laws. Is it Google’s fault? Will the countries of the world develop their own search engines and leave the popular American ones out? Could lead to a different kind of cold war.

If Google suddenly could no longer catalog websites and information in a dozen or so nations around the world, would that affect how Americans and Europeans search for information? It could, but how? Better yet, how should the industrialized world react to this? How will it affect international law? These, and many more, are questions begging to be asked. But how long will it take to answer them?
