More On Keyword Research
Here’s a suggestion for coming up with the best keywords for your site concept:
1) Start off brainstorming. Think up as many keywords as you can that relate to your concept.
2) Go to Overture’s Keyword Selector Tool.
3) Enter each keyword, one at a time, into the keyword suggestion box.
4) Make a note for each keyword as to how many searches were made for that keyword last month.
5) If the keyword suggestion tool makes other suggestions for keywords, copy them all down and write down the number of search made for that keyword last month.
6) Click on each of the keywords suggested by the tool and make a note of all the related keywords for that term and the number of searches made for those last month.
7) Now go through all of your keywords and discard any that doesn’t make sense for your concept, not related or the search numbers are just too low. Don’t necessarily throw them out because you might find a use for them. Just put them at the bottom of your list.
Rank your keywords by the number of searches.
9) Starting with those keywords with the highest number of searches, search for those keywords at Google, Yahoo and MSN. Note the number of pages that comes up for those search terms. Search using quotation marks and without quotation marks.
You are looking for keywords with high demand and low supply – that is, a lot of people are searching for the terms but there are few websites providing information on them. This is a time consuming process, but very necessary. Don’t skip it.
