Is SEO Better Than Sex?
A friend of mine remarked that porn kings were the first guys to make money online. I reminded him that the porn kings were also the first guys to plant viruses on our computers by offering us cookies disguised as sweet treats. That gave rise to ITDs … you know, Internet Transmitted Diseases.
Long before Amazon.com and eBay, however, there were a group of quiet marketers going about their business of making money online, and they weren’t porn kings. They were just normal average Joes selling their services: SEO, website design, and other language coding. They were the first Internet entrepreneurs. The porn kings learned from them. The rest of us learned from the porn kings.
This isn’t a chicken or egg question, it’s an SEO or sex question. Which is better? Porn kings may be making more money than most SEOs right now, but as the Net grows and SEO knowledge and sophistication grow with it, along with specialization, anyone who builds a website will need an SEO consultant on his team, no matter what industry he’s doing business in. They likely will not be calling any porn distributors to help them market their services. So when it comes to which is better, SEO or sex, you can bet that we’ll play if safe and just play with our own toys, the ones that have made us a good and honest living. And, no, we’re not porn kings.
