As blogging has grown more popular in the last few years, legislation has gained a foothold, making it more difficult and more threatening to be a blogger. But if you stear clear of a few danger areas then you can run a successful blog, especially if your blog is a business or commercial blog.

- When promoting your product through word-of-mouth marketing (including blogging) you must disclose this fact (we’re not quite sure yet what ramifications this will have for bloggers promoting other people’s products, but you should play it safe;
- Never use links or other content to claim other people’s work as your own, even inadvertently;
The law isn’t clear on inline linking of graphic images, but you should play it safe and seek permission; - Content is copyrighted the moment it is created;
- Be aware of registered trademarks and don’t use them without permisssion;
- Be careful about how you use the private information of your readers and subscribers;
- User-generated content is owned by the writer, not the website on which it appears;
- You could be liable for comments by your readers if they are inflammatory, derogatory, or break existing laws;
- Always report your income from your blog lest you be guilty of tax evasion;
- Don’t mix personal money with corporate or company funds;
- Do not send unsolicited e-mails (spam);
- Shield laws may or may not protect bloggers so play if safe out there.
