Analytics: Key Factors About Your Visitors You Should Know
Do you know anything about the visitors you get to your website? You should. Here’s some basic information you need to know about them:
- Where they come from. It’s called referring. In your analytics report there should be a column for referrer. Look and see where your visitors are coming from.
- How long they stay. Do they stay on your website a few seconds, a few minutes, or a few hours? That’s good to know. If you have a large number of visitors that pop in then pop out it’s either because you have an attractive design, they don’t like what they see for some other reason, or the ads they are referred to your site from are misleading. Fix the problem and measure it again.
- How many pages do they visit on your site? Do they look at one page and leave or visit five or six before exiting? If most of your visitors only read the page they come into your site from then there is probably something wrong with your content. If they stick around and read several other pages and don’t buy anything then there could be something wrong with the way you are trying to close the sale.
- Which keywords are people finding for your website. Do you have keywords that never drive people to your website? Or do you have one or two keywords that seem to draw more traffic than others? This is important information. Capitalize on those keywords that are doing well and leave the others alone or fix the problem.
- Which pages are they leaving your site from? Very important. If you have one page that seems to drive people away you should think about taking it out of your website or rewriting its copy.
- Conversions. Another very important thing to look at. Does your website convert traffic to sales. If not, why not? Fix it fast because if you don’t you’ll be going out of business.
