If you are writing a blog using WordPress software and you are getting hit with tons of spam, there is a simple and quick solution. Install the Akismet widget that allows you control your spam.

Akismet will catch all of your comments before they go live on your blog and hold them for you to either approve or delete. If you get a legitimate comment you can approve it and it will go live at that time. However, if you get a spam comment you can delete it right from the back end of WordPress’s management tools and no one but you will ever see it. Get a lot of spam? You can mass delete with a click of the mouse. Awesome power!
