How To Know If You Are Ready For Social Media
I found an article at Search Engine Land useful:
Are you ready for social marketing? If your website meets the following criteria you may be:
- Timely - Timely is now. Not two years ago, not last week, and certainly not last millennium. Social media users are interested in the latest news. Make sure your content is timely.
Quality Content - Your content must pass the quality test. Don’t just write some smack down and put it up on your website like your attaching it to your refrigerator door with a magnet. Actually spend some time developing useful, high quality content. Social media users like that.
Relevant - The best way to achieve relevance is to spend some time browsing the social media websites in which you have an interest. Study Digg and StumbleUpon. You’ll notice some major differences between the two.For instance, StumbleUpon tends to be geared more toward artistic or creative types whereas Digg is more popular among the technical. Which is right for you?
Be sure to put bookmarking icons on your content pages. Be sure they are easy for people who use the most relevant social media sites to bookmark your pages. If your content is better suited for the Digg community then put a Digg icon in a prominent place on your web pages. Same for StumbleUpon. And don’t think that only one site is appropriate for you. You may be able to market your website on two or three. But even if you only fit into one community, exploit your strengths and get involved. You can take the world by storm with just one social media site.
