Link Building Is About More Than High Google Rankings
There is more to link building than the slow, steady climb of PageRank and the chasing after high PR sites with relevance to yours. One often overlooked value of link building is the traffic value. Everyone seems to focus on site rankings instead.
While site rankings is a value, and it can be achieved through link building, you shouldn’t overlook the value of links for traffic. After all, without traffic you can’t make any sales. PageRank and well optimized pages can deliver traffic to your website indirectly through the SEO process. But a steady link building campaign can deliver traffic to your website simply by putting your links in the right place at the right time.
The essence of links for traffic is that you don’t have to have a high PR or high rankings in the search engines to get the traffic. The idea is to attract traffic from other websites similar to yours. By encouraging other websites to link to yours you are hoping to get their site visitors to jump over to your site through that link. So how do you get sites to link to yours? Here are a few methods you can try:
- Request a reciprocal link
- Write an article and offer it to them exclusively, with your link in the author’s resource box
- Engage in article marketing
- Add something of high value to your website that would cause other webmasters to take notice and link to you in order to provide that value to their visitors
- Start a blog on your website and encourage comments and trackbacks
When it comes to link building, don’t fixate on rankings. Count the traffic costs.
