(Source) 1. What do I want to be known for?
2. What information, products, and services do I offer?
3. What keywords are my top ten competitors using?
4. What keyword phrases are people actually using when they search?
5. What types of actions are taken by people searching for each phrase?
This is a useful list. The five questions to ask yourself when performing keyword research. Actually, there are other questions too:
- What niche(s) are currently unfilled in the marketplace?
- Which keywords would fit that niche?
- What are the niches for each of my top ten competitors?
- What methods of monetization are most effective or appropriate for the keywords I’m targeting?
- Are there keywords I don’t want to use due to moral or religious convictions, or some other reason?
You must perform your keyword research before you get started on your website. Don’t rely too much on data received from Overture, WordTracker, and other keyword suggestion tools.
