What Are The Best Keywords To Optimise For On A Website?
Well, it all depends on the particular topic of your site, and what you are trying to achieve. Now, there’s a good point. Do you know what you are trying to achieve? Or better still, do you know what you should be trying to achieve?
Many people don’t, and it’s understandable - to some degree. It all boils down to not doing adequate market research first and foremost. Suppose you have a site with the topic of golf, and you assume that all the golfers are wanting to lower their handicaps. Armed with this logical assumption, you target keywords like, “lower handicap” and “improve golf swing.” But the sales are mediocre. Something is wrong.
It turns out (remember, this is a hypothetical situation - I am not an expert on golf) that what the golfers really want is to lower their handicaps so that they can impress their friends. That may seem more or less the same thing, but it’s not. It’s something completely different, and the marketer who targets this will get the lion’s share of the sales in that market.
It all boils down to market research. If you don’t do a thorough job, you could be losing out. And remember, I have no idea whatsoever why golfers might want to lower their handicaps. I just made the situation up to illustrate a point: choose the right keywords based on sound market research and you won’t go far wrong!
