The Evolution of Web Design
Web design has come a long way since the early days of the World Wide Web. Anyone who can remember Netscape 1.0 and its limitations can attest to that. When frames started to become popular in the mid 1990s, Netscape 1.0 keeled over whenever it encountered a framed site – it couldn’t cope.
Today, framed sites are rare and only used for specific reasons. Web design has lost its early 90s minimalistic look and developed something much more sophisticated. Sometimes though, designers forget why they exist and design sites that are all-dancing and all-flashing, which does little to enhance the site, but (hopefully) much to enhance the designer.
The move to incorporating CSS into web design was much welcomed when it became possible. The browsers took a while to catch up with the technology, but better late than never. Today’s web design is much more positive and precise. The days of workarounds, because of technical limitations, have largely gone. Web design will continue to evolve, no doubt, but in steps, rather than leaps.
