Wikipedia describes itself as, “…a multilingual, web-based, free content encyclopedia project.” The interesting word there is “project,” for although there is an amazing amount of information already freely accessable in Wikipedia, it is still a project that will probably never be finished.

Wikipedia is written by volunteers who come from every corner of the globe. Part of its uniqueness lies in the ability of anyone to edit the information they find, with just a few exceptions. The project has in excess of 75,000 contributers who are actively involved. They work on some 5,300,000 articles spread over more than 100 different languages.

Wikipedia is a webmaster’s dream. While the content on just about every subject imaginable cannot be copied directly, the information can be used modified. It is almost the perfect resource for original content, an extremely necessary component in good SEO.
