Web Design - The Basics Are Not Really New

Web design is all about the design of web sites, of course, That much is obvious. Even if you prefer to buy a good template, rather than bother with the expense of hiring a designer, someone still had to design the template in the first place. Wikipedia describes web design as being:

“Web design is a process of conceptualization, planning, modeling, and execution of electronic media delivery via Internet in the form of Markup language suitable for interpretation by Web browser and display as Graphical user interface (GUI).”

That’s a bit complicated to get your head around, but it’s pretty much what it is, I guess. Mind you, web design is not really new. Not really when you consider that it largely takes its visual design leads from printed matter.

Printed matter goes a long way back beyond today’s magazines. I suppose you could credit the monks who spent hours illuminating manuscripts as being one of the original inspirations, though maybe that’s a bit far fetched.

However, good web design has to take into consideration something that printed matter does not; SEO factors. Search engine optimization, however, is little other than common sense in many ways. Having an H1 tag first, followed by H2 and H3, and so on, is actually pretty much the same thing that magazines do and have always done.
