Link Building – The Power Strategy For Any Web Site

Web sites need links. The major search engines have made it plain and clear; they will reward the web sites that have good links coming in to them better than the web sites that don’t, all things being equal. According to Tim Whiston’s article, The Power Of Link Building:

“The Web is built on links, and a solid link building strategy is absolutely essential for any business that wants to thrive online. In essence links that point back to your site do two things: they bring you targeted traffic and they enhance your search engine rankings.”

That pretty much sums it up. But link building actually goes further than that. It’s not just any links that you want to have or give out. It’s essential that the right kind of links are used. To quote Paul R Krenke in his article, Top 5 Link Building Expert Strategies: “The quality of a web site, as determined by the search engines, is a major factor, along with Page Rank, in establishing the importance of a link.”

In other words, not all links are created equal. If you link to a “bad” site you may be penalized, though the reverse is not so; the search engines will not penalize you for being linked to by “bad” sites. It’s a maze to be sure, but the bottom line is simply, get as many links as possible all pointing to your site with relevant anchor text, and you won’t do too badly.
