PPC Is Often Misunderstood…

There is still a lot of misunderstanding in the world of PPC. I recently came across this post in one of the pay per click forums: “How much do I bid for ppc campaigns?” No one answered, and it’s not surprising either. The question is obviously one from a person who simply does not understand what PPC is all about. He or she may have received a better response from the question, “What length is a piece of string?”

There is no such thing as a PPC campaign. There are PPC campaigns - millions of them, but the term is not generic and does not describe a single entity, as the questioner in the PPC forum seemed to think. Every PPC campaign is different and needs a different approach. Some people can get their bids really low, others are faced with $10 per click bids that they cannot get any lower. One person loves PPC, the other hates it.

There’s a simple, though generalised, formula for making very PPC campaign work. You need to find a suitable and potentially profitable market niche to target first. This involves market research. Then you need to find suitable buying keywords. For example, “internet marketing” is not a buying keyword. But “buy internet marketing ppc ebook” is! The second example tells you that the person searching is actually looking for something specific, and is looking to buy. Target the right product before such a person and they may well buy from you.
