Organising Content Development to Satisfy Search Engines And Humans
It’s common for people, especially those who are new to the Internet and web site development, to underestimate the time needed to prepare, research and develop unique content for any site. Proper content development is, I’m afraid to say, a much larger and more comprehensive job that most people understand it to be.
In its basic form, content development is, according to www.iml.uts.edu.au:
“Web content is the information you read on a web site. It can include text, images and interactive elements. Content development is the process of gathering together, writing, editing, optimising and otherwise adapting content materials specifically for publication on the web.”
Once the research stage is complete it is time to prepare the information architecture, or the way that it all links together is a meaningful way to both the search engines, and the human visitors. People typically scan web pages. they are seeking the little bits that make sense to them. They don’t want filler, just pure information that educates and informs.
Because of the scanning nature that people usually adopt when faced with a new wen page, you should structure your web page content in smaller chunks than you might typically find in a newspaper. Use sub-headlines that are keyword phrase laden. Use bulleted points and block quote any quoted material.
In short, structure your content development so that it is interesting to the people who read it. Structure your content development so that it makes sense to the search engine robots, and do both these things so that they work together on the same page at the same time.
