Social Optimization, New Or Just Obvious?

Like many things that come along, social optimization has been hailed as the new way to optimize sites for high rankings and good traffic flow on today’s web. They call it Web two point oh, generally written as Web 2.0, but it isn’t a new version of the Web. It is, I suppose, a different approach to the old, dare I say, original, approach developed in the 90s. According to www.toprankblog.com, social optimization is simple to grasp:

“The concept behind SMO is simple: implement changes to optimize a site so that it is more easily linked to, more highly visible in social media searches on custom search engines (such as Technorati), and more frequently included in relevant posts on blogs, podcasts and vlogs.”

That in a nutshell is social optimization. Will it change the way we all operate on the Web? Perhaps. There are many who would go further and say that it definitely will. Again from www.toprankblog.com who says that social optimization tactics can:

“… drive huge amounts of people to a website and can also determine whether a startup, website or idea will make it or not. It involves driving traffic to a website through new channels because search engines aren’t the only sites that drive big traffic anymore. While it’s not taking over SEO yet, it has the potential to someday soon.”

When will “someday soon” arrive? Probably sooner than you think! Someone once said that a lot can happen in a week of politics. That’s true. But an incredible lot more can happen in a week of Internet

One thing is true; social optimization is definitely here to stay. People are taking over control to a large degree. The phenomonal success of social media sites such as facebook, youtube, myspace – the list is seemingly endless – speaks for itself.

If you want good, targeted traffic now, you can go the traditional route, it still works fine, or you can check out social optimization. It’s the future right now in the present.
