PPC, Instant Traffic Without SEO
PPC, or pay per click, is an advertising model that is extremely popular with many people. Its main attraction is that you can bypass much of the optimisation that normally is associated with natural search engine rankings.
Of course, is it wise to still optimise pages for the natural search rankings, but with PPC you are in effect buying your way to traffic. Wikipedia describes the situation thus:
“Pay per click (PPC) is an advertising model used on search engines, advertising networks, and content websites, where advertisers only pay when a user actually clicks on an ad to visit the advertiser’s website. Advertisers bid on keywords they believe their target market would type in the search bar when they are looking for a product or service. When a user types a keyword query matching the advertiser’s keyword list, or views a page with relevant content, the advertiser’s ad may be shown.”
There are a number of PPC search engines and networks that can be utilised by the advertiser. They include, Google AdWords, Yahoo Search Marketing, and MSN adCenter at the top, with a large number of other, lesser known, players.
PPC is a quick way to test the waters, so to speak. With some of the networks you can see traffic arriving in as little as 15 minutes. In this way an advertiser can quickly see which keywords are working, and which are not, and make the necessary adjustments.
