Blogging In SEO

Blogging is a great way to aid your SEO efforts. Well build web sites can certainly benefit from good web design, but they need links too. This is where a dedicated blog, or several blogs can help. And the best way to have complete control over the blog posts is to own the blogs yourself.

Your blogs can be created specially for a particular domain as a funnel blog, or series of blogs, or it can be a generic blog that can be used for any domain. The choice is yours. The advantage of having a generic blog for all your domains is that it can develop over time and age too. In time it will gain page rank with Google, which will also help in the linking strategy.

Posts to the blog should obviously contain the keyword of the page being targeted, or synonyms as well. The length of the post is something that is often asked by those new to blogging, and at ProBlogger.net they have this to say:

“The type of post that you’re writing will often determine it’s length. For example when writing a review of a product you’ll generally write a longer post than when you write a news related post where you link to something someone else has written.”

They also say:

“There is a fairly strong opinion among those considered experts in Search Engine Optimization that both extremely short and extremely long web pages are not ranked as highly as pages that are of a reasonable length. Of course no one really knows how many words are ideal - but the general opinion seems to be that a page of at least 250 words are probably a reasonable length. Similarly, many advise keeping pages under 1000 words.”

The bottom line here seems to be that your “page” should be around 250 words minimum. That means that if you have a blog and you display 10 posts per page, you can, presumably, have posts that are much shorter than this, though a post of 25 words would hardly be worth making. Commonsense is obviously required in blogging, as in anything else.
