The Death of Link Building
It is a known fact that if you want to make some noise in the world of website optimization, link building is one of the best known practices to turn to. Surely, there have been a lot of people who are familiar with link building strategies. A plain request for a link back in exchange for a link on your site will be all would be needed. However, web optimization, particularly the Google adsense hoopla has now become wiser. They crawl through the site to see its relevance and links are not the only factors for consideration. It is the content and the uniform purpose of establishing a website that have been added to the mix.
(Source) Search engines have become an integrated part of our lives. In today’s world, ‘being online’ is not an option. In US alone, around 7 billion searches are being made every month. Travel, finance, entertainment, education, health or ecommerce, search engines are being used to find information, products and services.
If link building was the only way to build traffic and raise page ranks, then perhaps all you have to do is solicit some links and put up a link farm. But then again, that defeats the purpose of SEO. If that were the case, then sites which normally put up link pages would be most probably sitting pretty these days. Just observe the next site you visit. You will see only a couple of links and most of them are relevant to the genre of the site to which it is serving.
SEO practices can indeed be your calling to the millions that are long overdue to you. However, if you hear of link building, think twice and look for other means of building traffic. It is really something that has gone passé and has certainly been overused.
If you do choose to use link building, you don’t need 100 links to get attention. Just limit your links to relevant and important reference sites. That way your site can be useful to people looking for sites that can help rather than spam.
