ClikitySplit Offers Twist On Local Search
Never mind that few of us can define Web 2.0. ClikitySplit founder Jim Clouse is calling his new local search website a “Web 3.0″ tool. Whatever that means, ClikitySplit does have some potential.
Clouse also describes his new creation as a (source) “visual, rich multimedia, dynamic, marketing and search engine.” Sounds cool, doesn’t it?
Actually, it is, and it could very well be the next stage in local search. However, I disagree with Clouse on one point:
“The Internet was supposed to level the playing field,” he said. “But that’s been a complete lie until now. The ones with the deep pockets get the play in the search engines.”
I still believe the major search engines level the playing field for small businesses. The big corporate don’t dominate it completely just yet. Sure, they have a monetary advantage; but they have a flexibility and maneuverability disadvantage. And, quite frankly, I don’t see how that will change with ClikitySplit. The “search engine” currently caters to large restaurant and hotel chains, though Clouse is saying it has applications for local small businesses as well. He’s probably right, but then so do traditional search engines.
Perhaps the most powerful features offered by ClikitySplit is the ability to find a local business and mouse over its red dot to see videos, audio, and even breaking news from those businesses featured.
It remains to be seen whether or now ClikitySplit will appeal to the masses, but it does have some potential. I’ll give it that.
