Does Social Media Marketing Have SEO Benefits?
There seems to be a split between SEO and social media marketing. One group says SEO is better, the other group yells, “No, social media marketing is where it’s at.” But who’s right?
The truth is, both are right.
You can’t run a website without SEO. Organic search is still here and will likely be here to stay. But that doesn’t mean you should ignore social media sites either. The problem with social media advocates is they tend to forget about the SEO benefits, or ignore them altogether, of the social media marketing that they advocate. I can’t help but think that a part of it is an irrational prejudice against SEO in general.
Social media marketing, however, does carry some SEO benefits. One of the most profound ways to get SEO benefit out of social media marketing is through social bookmarking. Each time you bookmark your website or blog you are creating an inbound link. Add the positive votes that others give to your content and that just sweetens the pie.
You also get inbound links whenever you add profiles to social sites. Those are quality links because they typically from from high PR sites.
Another great benefit to social media marketing is traffic to your site. But don’t forget about the indirect traffic increases that come from your rise in search engine rankings due to an increase in inbound links and PageRank. There is more than one way in which social media marketing benefits you with SEO.
