Keyword Research: An Essential Step To Building Your Website

Keyword research deserves some attention these days. Many new webmasters get hung up on the research part. In fact, so many new website owners get so flustered about keyword research that they aren’t quite sure where to start, or where to stop.

The thing to keep in mind is that keyword research is only the beginning of your web success. Everything else you do online hinges on how you conduct your research. The bottom line on keywords is, Are they relevant to your website concept? You’ll run across keywords in your research that may appear relevant to your website on the surface, but that fall way short in the long run. Don’t delete such words from your list; just be careful how you use them, if you use them at all.

Keywords can make or break you. You must define your website concept around the most profitable keywords on your list. Some people start out with a concept then try to fit the keywords into that concept. I believe this is backward. Start out with an idea about the direction you want to go, but allow the keywords to modify that. Your entire website’s profitability will be determined by the aggregated profitability of your keywords. Therefore, you should conduct a thorough search for the right keywords for your website. It takes time, but it’s a necessary step.
