Top 5 Social Marketing Activities
Social marketing is becoming one of the key tools to promoting your blog and through it your business. Like all promotional tools, social marketing can take time to set up but once in place, it becomes a short regular routine, a routine with many benefits.
- Guest Blogging. Finding a blog in a similar area and writing guest posts is a great way to introduce yourself and your blog to a new audience. If you can negotiate the right agreement, you should be able to include a short bio in the footer with links to your blog. Try to avoid links in the article - leave them for the footer. Provide a quality guest blog and you will either be asked to return or you will find others inviting you.
- Forums. Participate in forum discussions. Look for niche specific forums. Keep your comments on topic and within the forum’s rules and you can establish a following.
- Article Marketing. Submit your quality articles to article submission services. Make sure your submissions are within their guidelines, particularly when it comes to links. Again, use the footer or bio for your links and other details. Publishers are loath to print articles full of keywords and links.
- Blog Commenting. Leaving comments on other blogs, particularly quality blogs, serves a number of purposes. First and foremost, you are reading and getting an idea of what is topical both from the blog writers perspective and from the other comments left. Secondly, you can establish yourself as an authority in your particular area, this will lead to more visitors to your blog. Finally, don’t underestimate the value of links created by your comments. Leave quality on topic comments and they will remain on the post - leave spamming comments and they will be removed.
- Social Bookmarking. Register with some of the better social bookmarking sites and spend a little time getting to understand the sites workings. Don’t jump in make a million friends. Pick your friends wisely. Try to find individuals who are active on a regular basis.
These five activities seem innocuous and may not feel like traditional blog marketing tactics. We are however talking about web 2.0 - there is nothing traditional about it. Social marketing is all about introducing yourself and your blog as an authorities in your particular field. The use of these strategies in itself shows others that you understand social marketing in the web 2.0 environment.
