SEO Analytics - Do You Understand Them
Do you use any SEO analytic software? I am sure many will say, “I sure do, I use Google Analytics”. There are others who will say, “huh?”. Second Question: do you know how to use them and what to do with the information.
There are many different SEO analytic solutions available. Some are free, you get what you pay for; others can be expensive. Before grabbing an analytic program, think about why you need it and what you are going to do with the information.
What you should be looking for are keyword trends or patterns. Which keywords are delivering the best traffic. Other aspects that should be measured are campaigns, for example if your run an email campaign, has the traffic increased and if so, where have they come from. You can also look at browser use - which browsers are most commonly used to access your sites.
You may ask why, particularly when it comes to browsers? Put simply, not all browsers are equal. I was surprised to see that the majority of visitors to one of my sites used Internet Explorer (70%) - my site had been optimised for Firefox - now they optimised for both. The majority of users came from the UK but I was unable to determine where in the UK - time to look for a better analytics program.
A good analytics program provides the information for a SWOT analysis for your site. What are my strengths; what keywords work; what marketing campaigns are working; with this information you can write to those keywords and follow up on those successful campaigns. Conversely, you can identify what is not working, which keywords are not bringing in traffic. You can then determine if your SEO strategies need tightening or perhaps looking to modify or drop poor performing keywords or campaigns.
The key is to find an SEO analytics program that you are comfortable with and provides you with the information you require to improve your blogs rankings and improve the traffic flow to your site.
