Employment Trends In Search Engine Marketing
SEO and Search Engine Marketing is starting to move in-house as more and more organisations come to understand the importance of these activities. A quick look through the UK recruitment agency positions advertised will show an increase in the listed vacancies for in-house SEO and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) experts. It is no different here in Scotland where more organisations are looking to recruit individuals experienced in Scotland SEO and Scotland Search Engine Marketing.
Given the high salaries that qualified and experienced individuals can demand it is difficult to determine whether or not these organisations will see a decent ROI. However, ROI aside, what benefits are there to an organisations that uses in-house SEO and SEM compared to outsourcing?
Possibly the two most important aspects to be considered when deciding to go in-house are the ability to assign ‘dedicated’ roles using staff who ‘understand’ the organisation’s structure, products and customers.
Outsourced projects may be passed on to individuals or teams that are working on several different projects at once. Having dedicated staff who are able to focus all their attention on the one project has its obvious benefits. Organisations are also able to consider other projects such as dedicated branch, department or product sites. The saying is that an organisation’s greatest assets are its employees. Utilising employees that know the organisation, know the product and know the organisation’s customers is another obvious plus.
On the down side, are issues such as ROI. It hard to measure the returns gained from effective SEO or Search Engine Marketing. Whilst utilising experienced employees is a plus, the reality is that most organisations will need to recruit individuals who have no history or knowledge of the organisation. They will need to learn on the job. Another issue is once SEO and Search Engine Marketing are successfully optimised, the role of a dedicated full time person becomes less demanding and further task need to be found within the current role or within other IT sections.
Organisations need to assess the benefits to using in-house SEO and Search Engine Marketing in light of the factors mentioned. For large organisations the cost benefits can be clear. For smaller organisations it could be more practical to outsource these activities to specialist organisations such as ASM Development who specialise in all aspects of web development, SEO and search engine marketing and who have an in depth knowledge of the requirements for successful Scotland SEO and Scotland Search Engine Marketing.
