Link Building - The Heart Of Any Web Site
We know that link building is important. Some believe that link building is more important than keyword research and optimisation. The truth is, they both go hand in hand. Generic link building is fine, link to keywords and you strike gold.
A lot of emphasis is placed on deep linking. Links from a web site or blog with a higher PR than yours that links via a keyword to an article on your site should be one of your primary goals. There are other links that are also important.
One of the least used and perhaps least understood is the power of an internal link. Internal links should be a major part of your link building strategies for a number of reasons. Let’s put SEO and other factors aside for a moment and think of your visitor.
As a web site or blog grows in popularity the number of new visitors will increase. These visitors have not read a lot of your older articles and unless they spend some time going through your archives, they never will. So why not give them a helping hand. When writing on a particular topic, provide links to any of your relevant previous articles. This fulfills a number of objectives:
-
Introduces your reader to your older articles
Demonstrates a broader knowledge of the topic increasing your credibility
Saves times for your visitor
Provides a deep link to your articles
Hang on, what was that last one. Provides a deeper link to your articles. If you use the right keywords then a link in your article to a previous article improves the worth of that article and increases the pages rankings within search engines.
Experienced readers will know you are providing a deep link for SEO purposes. If it is done within the context of the article and non intrusive then the reader will not mind. Look at an article from any of the top bloggers and you will see them littered with links, either to older articles or articles from fellow bloggers.
Providing deep links within your own articles has another hidden effect for link building. It is almost a lesson in psychology. If I as a reader like your article and decide to link to it in one of my articles, the words that will stick out are the words that have been highlighted. This is often done using the bold attributes. Linking however adds that one extra dimension, colour. The linked words will stand out and I will probably use those words when linking to your article.
That I believe is a keyword rich deep link - and that lies at the heart of any link building exercise.
