Podcasting With A Polished Touch
Podcasting is becoming relatively inexpensive and the quality of many podcasts is extremely diverse. Corporate podcasts can be very polished productions while bloggers playing with podcasting range from the extremely amateurish to productions that compete with experts. I read one article that likened podcasting to the early days of black and white television. Those who are old enough will remember the days of being glued to programs such as Coronation Street. The quality of transmission was irrelevant. There where people, real people, acting out a drama on a small screen – in our homes. I find that many of today’s podcast enthusiast are not as open minded. They want quality and will quickly avoid podcasts that are not of an acceptable standard.
Having a decent microphone is the first step to quality podcasting. Either filter out unwanted background noises or select a recording area that provides the right recording environment. This not only includes avoiding unwanted background noise, it also includes avoiding hollow or echoed recordings.
Use music or related sound effects to introduce and end the podcast. This adds that little extra polish to the overall recording and gives the listener a more enjoyable podcasting experience. There are a number of podsafe music directories where podcasters can purchase music that is royalty free, meaning there would not be any recurring charges when using the music in a podcast.
Give your podcast a title that is not only catchy but also related to the content. Remember that some podcasts are found through search engines so you need to package and market the finished product as you would your web site.
By polishing you podcast these tips the podcasting experience of your listeners will be enhanced to the point that they will come back for more – you just have to work on the content.
