Web Design: Which Design Is Best?
Web design is one of those strange beasts where you are trying to please all the people all of the time. The reality is that while everyone else is happy, your not. So which design is best? What are the best web design features? Ultimately this is only one answer and while it may sound complicated - it isn’t.
The best web design is the design that gets the job done with the minimum of code, and a minimum of complexity.
Sounds simple and yet sounds complex. When designing your web page, the best process to use is a form of reverse engineering. What do I want to accomplish with this web site and how do I want to accomplish it?
Answer that question and you can start to work backwards. Your final design will then depend on what components are required to accomplish your goals. If you are going to use a shopping cart, how will it be accessed? If you are going to have a newsletter subscription, how do you want them to sign up?
These are all components of web design that should be considered before building your web site. What complicates the code and starts to make a sight look messy are all the after-thoughts. Once your site has been established, adding components can start to make your sites code messy. It can also affect important areas such as load speed, user friendliness and even search engine optimization.
To answer the question. The best web design is the design that has been well thought out from the start; gets the job done; is easy for the visitor to use; and doesn’t require any after-thoughts.
When planning your web site - really think about what features you want in your web design and get the job done properly - right from the start.
