Blogging is a great tool for communicating with your potential customers. It is also faster and somewhat easier to build search rank due to a blogs ability to quickly gain backlinks. This us particularly true of WordPress (although other blog platforms have plugins or modules) when using features such as trackbacks.

Trackbacks are a simple tool that notify another blog that they have been linked to in a post. This is generally done by leaving a short snippet from your post as a comment on the linked to post. If approved, the linkback becomes a link in the comments.

For a blog owner, this can be one way of controlling where the links coming in are coming from. If your clever you can even control the anchor text of the link.

For WordPress users, utilizing trackbacks is very easy. Below the editing window is an area labeled as trackbacks. Open the drop window and insert the URL of the post you have linked to. Simply leave a space between URL’s if there is more than one.

Once you publish your post, the trackback is sent to the linked post(s). Done - you have a trackback. If you are selective with the blogs you link to, you can trackback those pages that have a decent page ranking. Over time, you may find some of this page rank helping to lift your pages ranking.
