Even The Experts Stumble On SEO
WebProNews has reported on the SES San Jose conference and the first story to be published seems to leave one scratching the head a little. According to the presenter, the following seven pointers will help you reach #1 in the search engine rankings:
1 Content is King - this has been around for a long time although the emphasis this time was on the content as whole - not just keywords. Search engines have reached a point where they can read content and judge it’s worth.
2 Navigation and Architecture - again, nothing new here. Having good clear internal links is important for both the visitor and the search engines.
3 Blogs - blogs will help you rank higher quicker and will often rank well themselves very quickly - we have promoting the use of blogs for a long time.
4 Quality and Keyword Rich Inbound Links - this is also not knew. Every webpage owner knows the importance of links and achor used.
5 Database - now this one threw me. Why on earth would a spider want to troll through my database? I think this may have slipped out without much thought. Apart from filling in forms, spiders should not have access to databases.
6 Electron Press Releases or Optimized Releases - press releases have been popular for big sites and may help some of the smaller ones too. They can help generate traffic.
7 Domain Name Strategy - this has often caused confusion amongst specialists. The bottom line is that a good url will not hurt your search engine ranking. Will it help - that is debatable. It may help with Yahoo!.
Not a great start to what is a popular event. Hopefully better will come.
