Establishing An Online Business - Part 2, The Web Site

When establishing an online business that is an extension of your bricks and mortar business, registering a domain name that is as close to your existing business name is top priority. If your business name is registered then there is legislation that may prevent others from using that name. If it is appropriate, register that name yourself.

Once you have your domain name, you will need to select an appropriate host for your website. Having determined how and where you will have your website hosted, it is time to start building your website. You have several choices.

Build it yourself
Are you brave. There is plenty of software around to help you build your own site. The reality is, if you don’t have a lot of experience it will show.

Use a template
Templates can look extremely professional and can do a great job. You have to be aware that templates mean your site will not be unique. It may also have links to other sites in the footer that may not fit with your ideals.

Hire a professional designer
By far the most expensive option although in the long run possibly the least expensive. Professionally built websites generally out perform self built or templates so it will pay for itself over time. Hunt around for a professional designer who also knows what is required for SEO.
