Using Blog Search As A Reputation Management Tool

The biggest growth area on the internet over the past two or three years has been the blog and blogging. One of the major factors has been the ease of use – mums and dads can enter any of the free bog sites and within minutes have their own blog up and running. Not only can they have their own blog up and running, they can be telling the whole world how wonderful your business is – or how terrible. Google has a dedicated Blog Search resource which can be useful a reputation management tool.

Knowing what us being about your business can be quite useful. Reputation management is not just about stopping the negatives from hurting your business. If you know people are writing positive things about your business then it can be a good idea to highlight these free reviews.

Blog Search is no different to the general search that Google offers – of course the results are supposed to come from the world of blogs rather than the broader online community. I say supposed to – if you ever use the resource you will see that non blogs often appear in the results.

All that aside, using blog search to track any mention of your business, brand, product or your name is fairly straightforward. Go to the Blog Search portal and simply enter your search term wrapped in inverted commas. This will restrict the search to that phrase or those words.

Google will return any instance of that phrase that it has found while indexing any blog pages. It is not foolproof – it wont find every occurrence and little things like mis-spellings will escape the search. However, undertake the process once a week as a part of your reputation management strategy and you will at least know what is being said about you in the blogging world – if anything.
