Google Clarifies Adsense For Video
Google have had to clarify their closure of the Adsense for Video network following their recent announcement. In a blog post on their Adsense Blog, Google advised that the Adsense for Video was being closed down for publishers only.
What does this mean? If you create videos you can run placement targeted instream video ads and the income generated will be split between the video owner and Google.
The YouTube Partner Program will also continue. This is where the big change will occur. If a third party publisher inserts your video into their web site, they will no longer earn a share of the revenue. Instead of the current system of the publisher, the video owner and Google all taking a share of the revenue, it will be the owner and Google who share the revenue – the publisher will miss out.
The closure of the video publisher ad network will take place at the end of this month (April). From that point on, publishers will not be paid for videos shown on their sites.
For video creators, this means more income. For publishers, and there are not a lot of them, it will mean less. For visitors – they wont see any difference. I don’t expect the number of videos being shown to decrease since there are not a lot of publishers using the service.
As the recession bites, Google tightens its belt just that little bit more.
