Search Engine Marketing Is A Long Term Strategy – So Start Now For Christmas
I know, it’s Easter so we shouldn’t be talking about Christmas. However, if you are just starting out in the online world, and special occasions like Christmas, Easter and Valentines Day are your main sales peaks, then you need to get your search engine marketing started months in advance.
Search engine marketing can take months to bear any fruit. According to a recent survey (see our post on How Long Does It Take To Rank Well?), it can 3-6 months to reach the front page of search results. If the period leading up to Christmas is one of your peak periods, then now is the time to start. If it does take six months, that will be October, just in time to reap the festive season rewards.
Christmas is one example. All to often I see web site owners trying to rank highly for special occasions, but leaving it to the last week or two before doing any optimization. At that point, it is generally too late. Everyone else has worked for months to achieve their rankings so a new arrival on the scene can hardly expect to make much of an impression.
Many readers will have experienced the start of this year’s Easter marketing campaigns – in some places they started as soon as the New Year sales finished – the 2nd or 3rd of January. That is how competitive the bricks and mortar world of marketing has become. The online world is no different.
If you are relying on special occasions to boost your sales – thinks months in advance. Don’t leave your search engine marketing to those few days or weeks – plan ahead and beat your opposition.
