How Much Content Is Too Much Content?
Believe it or not you can have too much content, and of course, too little. What can be difficult is assessing what too much or too little is exactly. However, you come back to the basic premise that your content is there for a reason, you have a good starting point.
Why are you writing and what are you writing? For blog posts, 300-500 words are ideal. Any longer and you risk boring your readers, any shorter and you may not be providing enough information. Having said that, Some posts can be around 200 words and still get the message across.
For web pages, your content needs to have some reasoning behind it. If it is designed for selling then rather size, you should concentrate on selling with appropriate language and call-to-action points. I have seen sales pages that run to 1500 words – to me a turn off – for others they are fine.
In simple terms, the size of your content is dictated by the message you are trying to send. Readers don’t like long winded pages, you have a message, deliver it and move on. If your content does look like it is going to be long, break it up into a number of pages. This is good for both the reader and yourself. You have extra pages on your site – great for SEO, the reader gets their information in bite size pieces before moving on. How much content is too much – your readers will soon tell you by not returning.
