How Sitemaps Help Your Site Get Crawled
The Sitemaps Protocol is only a couple of years old. But it’s an important protocol. Most websites would benefit from having one. Having a sitemap, however, doesn’t guarantee that the pages on your site will be indexed or achieve any rank. A sitemap will make your site more crawlable and easier to crawl for the search engines.
When should you have a sitemap made for your site?
- If you have a new website with just a few links in it
- If you feature dynamic content on your website
- If you use AJAZ or Flash on your site
- If you have an older site that has a lot of pages not well linked to each other
- Your site is not easily crawlable
The purpose of the sitemap is to make your website more easily crawlable. If it does that then it’s doing what it is suppposed to do. If you get more pages indexed and ranked as a result of that then it’s even better.
