Will Scotland SEO Get A Boost From Local Business Centers Analytics?

We may have to wait but search engine optimization in Scotland may, like all regional areas, get a real lift in the type of information they receive from Google. Google have released a new analytics report that has the potential to really add value to the SEO work you do on your site. Unfortunately it is only available in the US at present but Google have stated that “We’re also working hard to add more historical information, and to make this available for businesses outside the U.S.

Let’s hope it happens soon. The new information is collected from users who find your business through Google’s Local Business Centers. This could be through either a general search or a search on Google maps. According to the Google Blog, the information collected includes:

  • Impressions: The number of times the business listing appeared as a result on a Google.com search or Google Maps search in a given period.
  • Actions: The number of times people interacted with the listing; for example, the number of times they clicked through to the business’ website or requested driving directions to the business.
  • Top search queries: Which queries led customers to the business listing; for example, are they finding the listing for a cafe by searching for “tea” or “coffee”?
  • Zip codes where driving directions come from: Which zip codes customers are coming from when they request directions to your location.

Google have created a new dashboard to interact with your local listing and to display the results of the data collected. Of course, you have to have claimed your business first and gone through the process of verification.

This has the potential to become an important resource once it is released on Google’s .co.uk sites. With more people using the Local Business Center and with mobile access increasing, knowing which keywords are being used to find your sites could be a real plus. This is particularly true if you are receiving some significant hits for keywords you havn’t considered in the past.

At present we don’t have access to these reports here in Scotland. However, if you are listed in local search then getting up to speed on the technology will have you well placed to take advantage of it when it does arrive. This will be huge boost for Scotland SEO down the track – I just hope that Google can implement it fairly quickly.
