Top Firefox Add-Ons To Help With Web Design And SEO

Firefox is one browser that goes beyond rendering a web page to your screen. With the addition of a few add-ons you can arm yourself with tools that can help your web design and to help gain useful information about your sites (and others).

A word of warning – before installing these add-ons, read the information related to them and get an understanding of how they can help you, otherwise you will gain little benefit from them. Most of these add-ons can be downloaded from the Mozilla website.

ColorZilla: This is an add-on that probably falls into the ‘wish I had’ category. It may not get used all that often but if you don’t have it there will be times when you wished you did. What does it do? In simple terms, it adds an eyedropper to your browser toolbar. Using the eyedropper you can determine the exact shade of any part of your page. Ideal if you are looking to blend Adsense ad units.

SEOQuake: This add-on is fairly popular amongst SEO professionals. It allows you to see information regarding Google index, Yahoo! backlinks, Alexa Rank, archive age, Del.icio.us mentions, subpages, source, Whois, keyword density and more for any page you visit.

SEO for Firefox: Similar to SEOQuake with the additional information on keyword research, GoogleAdwords tool, traffic estimator and Google trends.

Web Developer: This is a useful tool that has more functions than you can point a web page at. It is very useful for digging behind images for example, to read alt text. This is one of the most downloaded add-ons with over 100,000 downloads each week.

There are many others that are available that can be useful. Mozilla have their own Web Developers Toolbox that contains 12 of the best add-ons (some already mentioned), so if you are looking for a shortcut, you may want to check them out.

Of course, none of these add-ons can ever do anything to improve your web design or your SEO. That is still up to you. They can, however, provide you with a wealth of information to help in your decision making.
