Is Your Site Verified In Google – It Just Got Easier
Being verified by Google – is it important? I think it is. Even you have only a passing interest in statistics, Google’s Webmaster Tools does offer some interesting information. Having your site verified is one of the first steps in accessing all that Webmaster Tools has to offer – and the process is fairly straightforward.
Over the years the process of site verification has ranged from frustrating to just plain stupid. Google has now taken away all the frustration and craziness that was in place in the past.
For most of us, it may mean going in and being re-verified again. However, the process is easy and certainly not frustrating. To verify a site visit Google Webmaster Tools, enter in the site details and Google will provide you with a small piece of META code. Place this code in the header section of your main page and you are all done. If you don’t like playing with the code, you can download a small HTML file that you can save to your site – this will do the same job.
In the past, your verification code was based on your email address. Future changes to Webmaster Tools will include the visibility of email addresses of fellow verified site users. Obviously, if you have used an email address that is private, you won’t want to have it displayed. Now you can change your email address in Webmaster Tools and it will not effect your verification as it did in the past.
Site verification simply says you’re authorized to view the data that Webmaster Tools provides. That data can be valuable to your SEO processes so if you’re authorized, get verified and put it all to good use.
