Making Use Of Real Time Image Search

Real time image search is starting to gain some popularity, particularly when sites can connect to Twitter as a source. Ann Smarty on Search Engine Journal reported on real time image search and a site called PicFog. Her post related to gaining inspiration from image search.

I wonder if you cannot reverse that and turn it into a possible traffic generation tool. If you publish material on a regular basis that is current and perhaps appearing in the trends on various sites then including an image could be a smart move.

How does it work? PicFog is powered by Twitpic, Yfrog, and Twitgoo. These applications allow you to share photos on Twitter so if you include a photo within your content, you can share that photo on Twitter.

PicFog pics up all the images coming through Twitter and displays them in real time on their front page. There are two additional features that make PicFog particularly appealing. There is a standard search utility that allows a user to search through images. It is fairly accurate too.

The second feature is the one that is important – current Twitter trends. This displays breaking Twitter trends and images related to those trends. Tweet an image that is related to one of those trends and it will be published on PicFog. If it catches the readers attention, they may well click through to your site – just be sure to include your url in the picture Tweet.

You won’t necessarily receive a flood of traffic – however, for what is only a moments work, even one or two more visitors are better than none. Remember the search feature may bring your image back up again in a week’s time – particularly if it’s a topic that returns to the trends. It’s another vehicle for promoting your website and, ultimately, your business.
