Article Marketing For Scottish Domains – The Good and The Bad

Article marketing is often touted as one method of delivering targeted traffic and helping to build inbound links. What if you have a Scottish domain that is targeting a local geographical region here in Scotland – is the same true? It is an interesting question for any geographic region that is only targeting a certain region rather than a global market. Here are some of the positives and negatives.

Article marketing for Scottish domains – the negative

The down side to article marketing is that most article sites are located in the US and service an international market. This means your articles will most likely appear in global searches and not local searches and that any traffic received will be more global than local.

You can overcome this to some degree by including local geographic names in your keywords. You will need to balance this against any dilution affect of your targeted keywords.

Article marketing for Scottish domains – the positive

There is a big positive to article marketing despite where an article hosting site is located. This is in the form of links. I say a big positive for a reason. Articles you submit will never compete with your pages on UK searches (unless you use geographic terms as part of keyword phrases).

With this in mind, I suggest you write first class articles rather ‘good’ articles. You really want articles that people are going to read and that other sites are going to want to pick up. The more often your article is republished, the more links you are going to receive.

On balance, you may not receive a lot of viable traffic from these articles. However, they will not compete with your pages on the UK based search results, yet they could provide valuable links which will help to boost your position on UK search engines.

As part of a balanced SEO approach, Scottish domains can still gain benefits from article marketing – just remember the balanced approach philosophy.
