Social Media Marketing Starts On Page One – Your Site
Everyone is singing the praises of social media marketing, however, I rarely see any depth to these discussions. The ‘how’ is often missing. There are plenty of articles about at present as to ‘why’ you should be participating. I’ll not go into any great depth when it comes to ‘how’ today – but I will start you on the right road – and that road starts with your own website.
How friendly is it? User friendly I mean. There have been several surveys over the past 12 months that have reported on the effect of user feedback in the form of product reviews. These surveys are showing increased sales when product reviews written by customers are included on a site. What does this have to do with social media marketing? It’s the first step. Allowing customers to freely write about their experience helps to increase trust. Some surveys are also showing that these reviews are then being discussed on social media sites.
Being user friendly goes further than just customer reviews. Communication and information is becoming more important all the time. Do you hide information? Not intentionally perhaps, but through omission. It’s Christmas and whilst doing some online shopping I have become frustrated with the number of sites that don’t reveal payment or delivery options early on. The number of times I have had to get to step four, five or even six of the shopping cart process to finally find their payment or delivery options – then abandon the process because they don’t provide my preferred method of payment or delivery doesn’t suit.
And, yes, I do discuss these issues with friends and family on social websites and it is generally in the negative. Is that your site I am talking about? The point I am making here is whether or not your site gives cause to poor reviews on social media sites. If it does, all the social media marketing in the world may not undo the damage.
Social media marketing does start with your own website and along with it the quality of your products and services. Get your website in order, provide quality products and a first rate service then think about social media marketing. Believe it or not, chances are that people will already be singing your praises when you get there – you just have to join in.
